Hospital Visit

IMG_6889
Today I finally had the biopsy the Endocrinologist sent me for. I had an ultrasound done on my thyroid about a month ago showing a nodule that was slightly bigger than the doctor liked. The doctor told me that nodule’s any bigger than 1.0 cm they like to do a biopsy to make sure that its not anything serious. My nodule is 1.6cm placed on the isthmus of my thyroid. Today Dr. Krugman at Hackensack Hospital performed the biopsy. Both Dr. Krugman and the ulrtasound tech Cynthia were very welcoming and explained everything that was going to happen making things very comfortable for me. The biopsy was very quick and very painless. Dr. Krugman explained that he would go in with the needle twice to make sure they had enough cells to test. They actually have a portable lab which they brought in to test the cells as soon as they took them out to make sure they had a sufficient amount.

As soon as Dr. Krugman was finished another Doctor examined the samples under a microscope. Then another Doctor who I did not meet came in to check the samples and explained to me that there were a lot of Lymphocytes which explains the diagnoses of Hashimoto’s Disease. The Endocrinologist explained that this is most likely what I have. So now I have to wait for him to prescribe a hormone medication to regulate my thyroid. Thank you to all the Doctors at Hackensack Hospital for making this as quick and painless as possible.
