New York, NY: Social Media Week organizers have announced a second 2010 conference scheduled to be held between September 20th – 24th, 2010. This edition of Social Media Week will be held in five new cities around the globe, including Los Angeles, Bogota, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Milan. Social connector Meebo will return as a global sponsor for the event.
Social Media Week, organized by Crowdcentric, was held for the first time in February 2009 in New York City, and was launched as a distributed conference, with events taking place throughout the city with organizations such as the New York Times, Wired, Razorfish and Nielsen. Over 2,500 people attended over forty individual events, and thousands more participated online.
In February 2010, the organizers expanded the conference from one to six cities, reconvening in New York while adding London, Berlin, San Francisco, Toronto and São Paolo to the fold. This multi-city event attracted more than 7,500 attendees across 200 events, nearly all of which were made available for free to attendees thanks to sponsorship from a number of global brands, including Meebo and PepsiCo. And in addition to the physical events, Social Media Week organizers also streamed many of the events live and hosted real time conversations at socialmediaweek.org, reaching more than 100,000 unique visitors with millions of impressions generated throughout the social web. In February 2011, Social Media Week will return again to these six cities, plus additional new cities.
With Social Media Week, Crowdcentric continues to experiment with the distributed and collaborative aspects of the model and are excited to introduce the new conference and welcome new cities to the platform. “With the introduction of each new city, we collectively gain greater insights into how social & mobile media are impacting different business cultures and society at a global level, providing us with a much broader and more diverse understanding of its role and impact,” says Toby Daniels, CEO of Crowdcentric and founder and executive director of Social Media Week.
The city partners who run the conference in each region have been carefully selected based on the depth of their experience, the strength of their network, and the extent to which they contribute to their local business community.
Bogotá, Buenos Aires, and Mexico City, are not only important as the first Latin American cities to take part in Social Media Week, but also as representives of some of the key digital centers of one of the world’s most rapidly expanding cultural communities. Milan is significant as the tech centerpoint of Italy, currently the country with the world’s largest Facebook reach and second largest social networking reach. And, LA, the US’s second largest city, represents along with New York the most important media hub in the country.

Other city partners include Erick Brownstein, Media 3.0, for Los Angeles; and in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Bogota, efforts will be led by a team at Socialatom headed by Andres Barreto.
