Sunday afternoon was looking beautiful right until around 1pm in the afternoon when this wicked storm literally rolled into the area and wreaked havoc for a few hours and now right before the sun sets the clouds have cleared. Watch this timelapse of the storm coming in.

The love of foursquare has grown even more now that Marketfair mall in Princeton New Jersey has created a reserved parking spot for the mayor of the mall on foursquare. Tristanwalker announced on twitter at 10:23am about the awesome new special for foursquare players.

Gov. Chris Christie will announce plans for an historical takeover of the State of New Jersey’s endangered gaming industry and entertainment disctrict including the selling off and or shutting down of the failing Meadowlands Racetrack.
The takeover will remove all control from local governments from garbage pickup to police.
The Governor’s office put out an advisory this afternoon that Christie will announce the findings of the commission Wednesday at the meadowlands in East Rutherford and in Atlantic City but did not provide any details of the announcement.
These are the recommendations that are listed in the commission report:

• N.J. gaming industry massive overhaul: Winners & Losers

• Atlantic City’s entertainment and gaming districts would become an independent city within a city overseen by state government. That includes the casinos, the marina, beachfront and Boardwalk areas. Those parts of the city would all be put under the administration of a state authority directly answerable to governor.

• New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority would be all but disbanded, becoming simply a landlord for the facilities it now operates.

• The Meadowlands Racetrack could be sold for a token $1, or turned into an off-track wagering facility without live horse racing. The plan also recommends that the Izod Center arena be privatized or sold.

• In addition, the state would help re-finance the long-stalled Xanadu project in the Meadowlands, enabling a new developer to take control of the garish, high-visibility retail and entertainment complex alongside the New Jersey Turnpike that many consider an embarrassment.

• Financial aid to help complete Xanadu would be contingent on changing the building’s much-hated mutli-color exterior, and requiring that it be an entertainment complex, not simply another mall.

The recommendations were made by a seven-member commission headed by former sports authority chairman Jon F. Hanson, who ironically was one of the movers behind the expansion of the Meadowlands Sports Complex and the reach of the sports authority.

The report calls for the near-dismantling of the sports authority, which currently operates Meadowlands Racetrack and the Izod Center, Monmouth Park Racetrack, the Atlantic City Convention Center, Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall and the Wildwood Convention Center.

Created by the Legislature in 1971, the authority is operating in the red this year, largely because of massive losses in horse racing, as well as funding lost with the closing of Giants Stadium. The old stadium had generated $20 million in income for the authority. Under terms of a deal with the Jets and Giants, however, the authority will see only $6.3 million in lease payments this season when the two football teams move to the privately operated New Meadowlands Stadium.

NEW JERSEY (wpix)- Drivers in New Jersey are getting a break, when it comes to getting their cars inspected. Starting next month, they will no longer have to get their vehicles checked for mechanical defects, on cars less than five years old.

The state Motor Vehicle Commission announced the decision. For vehicles younger than 5 years, emissions testing will continue to be done every two years.

“This only makes sense,” said Robert Sinclair, Media Relations Manager, AAA. “Newer vehicles have the most up to date emissions standards. The way they are with equipment, tires, engines, brakes are more durable and reliable. The electronics in newer cars lets drivers know if there is a problem.” From an agency that services roadside problems, we know first hand that the newer cars are not the ones that need these inspections.

Of the vehicles getting inspected, less than 6 percent were rejected for “serious” defects like: brakes, steering or suspension problems, state officials said. The overall re-inspection rate was nearly 17 percent. “If we’re going to invest millions of taxpayer dollars year after year in a program, then it is essential that we be able to justify the expense and effectiveness of (the) program,” said MVC Chief Administrator Raymond Martinez. “With a lack of conclusive data, and the current fiscal crisis, we cannot justify this expense.”

People we spoke to had mixed reaction.

“I already stay on top of getting my car’s routine maintenance, ” said Kim Waddy of South River.

“This is great. I don’t have time to wait in those long lines,” said Weston Davis of West Orange.

“My concern is that people won’t get their cars serviced, putting more dangerous vehicles on the road,” said Terri Hester of Teaneck.

The move is expected to save the state more than $11 million a year. The state pays a private company to do the inspections and is charged per inspection.

Dalhausser/Rogers and Kessy/Ross prevail on Jersey Shore

AVP Press Release – BELMAR, N.J. —- Women’s top seeds Jennifer Kessy and April Ross continued their amazing June run, winning their third consecutive tournament this month with a 21-16, 21-13 win over Rachel Scott and Elaine Youngs in Sunday’s final of the AVP Nivea Tour Belmar Open Presented by Lexus.

Unlike their previous title wins in Huntington Beach, Calif. and Virginia Beach, Kessy and Ross needed to advance through the contenders’ bracket after losing to Scott and Youngs, 14-21, 17-21 Sunday in the winner’s bracket semifinals. With victories over Lauren Fendrick and Ashley Ivy (21-11, 21-13) and No. 2 seeds Nicole Branagh and Misty May-Treanor, 21-14, 19-21, 15-11, Kessy and Ross earned themselves an afternoon re-match with Scott and Youngs for championship bragging rights.

“It really fired us up,” said Kessy. “We did not want to lose to this team (Youngs and Scott) again and we wanted redemption from earlier in the morning. But advancing though the consolation bracket was definitely challenging.”

The Belmar Open marked the first tournament for Kessy and Ross as a number one seed.

“I think we come in with the same mentality in all of our matches, regardless of what our seed is,” Kessy said.

Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser ended June the same way they began it, with a win over John Hyden and Sean Scott in the finals of a tournament. The 2008 Olympic gold medalists secured their third championship of 2010 with a hard-fought victory over Hyden and Scott, 21-19, 21-15 in a battle of the top two seeds. On June 6, Dalhausser and Rogers captured the Huntington Beach Open with a win over Hyden and Scott, 21-16, 18-21, 15-9.

“We’re playing at a pretty high level right now”, said Dalhausser. “There’s some great competition out there, so we just have to continue to execute, especially defensively.”

Dalhausser and Rogers’ lone bump in the road this weekend came in the Game 2 loss to Casey Patterson and Kevin Wong, 22-20, during the semifinals. They rebounded to win the third and decisive game, 16-14, in advancing to the finals against Hyden and Scott, and earning their 52nd career championship together.

The AVP NIVEA Tour schedule resumes in three weeks with the Hermosa Beach Open, July 16-18 in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

BELMAR, N.J. (AP) — Top seeds Jennifer Kessy and April Ross advanced Saturday to the semifinals at the AVP Nivea Belmar Open by beating Brooke Hanson and Lisa Rutledge.

Kessy and Ross are seeking their third straight tournament victory.

They will meet Rachel Scott and Elaine Youngs, who rallied to beat defending Belmar Open champions Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan. Also advancing were the teams of Nicole Branagh and Misty May-Treanor and Angie Akers and Tyra Turner.

In the men’s division, the top-seeded team of Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser — who won the Olympic Gold medal in 2008 — moved into the semifinals by winning three matches. If they win the title on Sunday, it would be there third tournament win this year.

Also advancing to the semifinals were the teams of John Hyden and Sean Scott, Will Strickland and Aaron Wachtfogel, and Casey Patterson and Kevin Wong.

Here we are again my favorite event of the entire year is when Pro Beach Volleyball comes to the east coast. This year in Belmar New Jersey sponsored by Nivea. This evening Rita’s Italian Ice of Little ferry on Route 46 West hosted a fundraiser for the Ridgefield Fire Department Company 1. Rita’s of Little Ferry donated a portion of their proceeds that came in between 6pm – 9pm Thursday June 10th.  Lori Hoffman from the fire company who helped organize the event also mentioned that there will be a wet down at the fire company in Ridgefield at the end of September.

I live close to Teterboro airport in North New Jersey. The last two days military planes and helicopters have been flying overhead since Fleet Week has begun. Im a huge fan of Military Vehicles and when I started seeing that these guys were in town I was dying to photograph there presence. I headed over to Teterboro Airport Friday afternoon just after I saw an Osprey fly over our apartment. I managed to record a few clips and take a few photos as they were shutting down the planes for the night. I hope to capture more while they are in town but for now enjoy.

This was a great networking event put together by NJWedding.com I first discovered the event from their twitter account @njwedding . I wanted to introduce myself to other business so that I can show them what I can do for them as far as instruction on Social Media and how to use it properly regarding a business. My topic was a hit! I was emerged in conversations for a long time with many individuals who are very frustrated about facebook and twitter. They are all signed up but they don’t know how to get recognized or how to use it. I explained the benefits for a person with a business no matter what business it is. I told them that as part of my services I sit down and teach them how to sign up for accounts, how to link the accounts together and how to start searching twitter and facebook to follow the right people to get you going in the social media world.
